ya, i can post pics, but it will be tomorrow evening before i can get them.

Anyways, i looked at it today and i also noticed that i dont have the same adjustment bolt as shown in your picture. But im also 2 wheel drive. But if i did have the bolt it wouldn't be an issue anyways. its got plenty of room all the way around.

Thank you for the picture! Yeah, looks like the severe duty springs work fine on a 2wd. Thanks again,

Mac

A couple of questions.

In this picture is the bolt going thru the spring seat crooked or is it an optical illusion?

Also with the new springs installed if you look at the coil springs are they straight up and down in relation to the vehicle or are they crooked?

In the picture for the 2wd spring it appears the hold down plate is not centered in the bottom of the spring?

Yes, the bolt is crooked when the shocks are unhooked and the suspension is hanging. When you jack it up to where it is supposed to be, it goes back straight.

About the spring being crooked when installed, yes they do bent outward because they are not sitting flat due to hitting the ball joint nut.

It could be due to the quad shock option as well. But I think it is more a matter of the loop on the bottom of the spring is on the opposite side compared to the original spring. The spring will clear if I turn it completely around, but it will not fit into the groove of the top bracket where the "J-Hook" connects.

I think I will try to sell these springs to someone with a 2wd.

Thanks for all the responses, I appreciate it.

Mac...thought I'd try my hand at taking a pic of my front springs. I have one decent photograph that kinda matches the very first pic you posted. Here you go:

Pic was taken with the wheels at full right lock. And sorry for the rust...ahh, life in the salt belt!

I think the only major thing I noticed was that the bottom of your spring seems to stay flat longer before it starts its spiral, where my spring starts to climb pretty much right away. IMO, that would account for the amount of clearance I have between the ball joint nut and the spring.

I've got a pic of said clearance...doesn't show much other than what I've already described. If you wan't, I'll post it.

I think the moral of my story is that I'd be taking those springs back, and seeing if they'll exchange 'em for another pair. If the next pair you get is the same, get your money back and try another supplier. I got my Spicers from RockAuto, but I've heard Advance has a reasonable price, too.

EDIT: forgot to add, I have the quad-shock suspension, too.

HTH,
Pat

Pat,

Yes I am going to try to exchange them, but I don't know. I bought them in the fall and never got around to putting them on until now. The box is gone that they came in and I painted them red. So I would have to paint them black again and find a new box to put them in. But they are in new condition because I haven't driven the truck with them. I have had a "shop" account with Napa for over 10 years now so they know me well and might swap for another set.

I also see what you mean where your springs spiral up and mine do not. It is nice to see why mine do not fit. Thank you for the picture.

I'm adding to this old thread because I have just had the same problem installing 1 ton coils. I bought cc844 Moog coils. When installed, they are right up against the camber adjustment nut. I spent quite a bit of time staring at these things and scratching my head. I think might know why they aren't fitting the way they should. I don't have the dual shock option.

If you look at the ends of the coil top and bottom, on the Ford coil the ends are not mirror images of each other. The coil terminates on the engine side of the coil on the bottom and on the tire side on the top. The Moog coil ends are mirror images of each other - ie. both terminate on the tire side of the coil. This seems to cause an issue because the coil is now at a lower stage in its curve where is meets up with the camber nut. I don't know if that made any sense but if I can find my camera I'll take a pic to show what I mean.

Looking back at other threads of people who have done this swap, all the ones I have found have used the Spicer coils. Maybe they are configured the same as the Ford coils. FYI the coils that were in the truck had a red rag Ford tag on them that said 5310. If anyone knows what that means for load rating I'd appreciate it as a comparison.

I did get the truck buttoned back up before dinner and measured out the lift difference. I measured top of the hub to the top of the wheel well and I gained 1 1/2" (18.5" - 20").

I just want to update that I've had my truck aligned by Westcoast Alignment in Vancouver and they were able to proper align the truck using a camber kit. The truck is now within spec and looks right. The new springs lifted the front of the truck and the ride is good. Truck feels stronger. The ride is firmer and more controlled.

Colin, I've sent you a pm to let you know that you should go to another shop and be pushy. My truck looked exactly like your pics and now its all good.

Thanks very much Todd! Glad to find a solution to this problem after all this time. There are nice camber bushings on broncograveyard.com that I may try.

Thanks again

FYI, when you call around for another alignment shop, ask if they have the bushings. The shop I went to had them already. Might save you some time and trouble.

Just in case I need to reference this thread when I take mine down off the frame stands on Thursday...

I swapped in a set of cc844's this afternoon. I got them from RockAuto.

The install seemed to go easy enough, but I goofed on the shocks...

(See related thread...)

The above issues seem to be only installing the cc844's in a 4WD and not 2WD. I installed the cc844s severe duty and have the same problems as described. The truck doesn't do much pavement driving so I haven't worried about the slight \ / camber misadjustment due to adjustment access. I do want to fix this eventually.
