Hello, all.
Sorry i haven't been on much. I usually work around 110 Hrs every two weeks... At least I have lots of cash to spend on my 75...
Speaking of which, I am in the process of doing some rust repair on the back fenders. I went to the local automotive paint shop and inquired about the color of my truck, and the price of the paint. Well, one mystery solved.. my truck's lovely green color is called Hatteras Green Metallic. As for the price, a simple spray can which had to be mixed up special, because the paint type is Acrylic.. old school, you know, cost me 23 dollars.. a gallon??? 245 dollars.. any chance I can find it anywhere online cheaper???
What brand of paint was it? Most paint stores offer more than one brand of paint. There is ALWAYS an off brand alternative. They could have been selling you the expensive name brand stuff... unless your in California. I hear stuffs really expensive out there on account of the EPA. A single stage acrilic enamel paint job shouldn't be really expensive, even if they have to special mix it. Most of the time they have to mix factory colors anyway. FYI: base coat/ clear coat is the best way to go now. And please tell us your not spray painting it.
Any time you have them put it in a spray can, it's going to cost you an arm and a leg. If you buy it by the gallon with activator and all that mumbo Jumbo, it wont be $245. O'reilly's does the same thing.
The paint type is DuPont. I'd assume that the price is due to the fact that the paint is Acrylic....you know, the original type used on the truck... and no.. im not planning on spray painting it, there are just a few small rust spots i want to cure.. when i do paint it i will more that likely have the local body shop i.e. the professionals do it
These days enamel is almost the same price as base clear, maybe very slightly cheaper. The paint, reducer and hardener shouldn't cost you more than $130, that's what I sell it for. That's for a little over 6 qts. sprayable.
If you are looking for an exact paint match to your factory color, that's gonna be hard to do. These trucks, and their factory paint are OLD, and the paint is going to be a bit faded with age.
Small patch, or panel jobs are going to be tough to match.
