Cleaned EGR Valve - Thanks FTE!
So my 2007 F250 has 40,000 miles, 1098 hours, on it and after reading on the FTE forums decided to clean the EGR valve. I bought the truck used with 34,000 miles, so I decided to have a look. Since then, been using Diesel Kleen in every tank. I have before / after pictures in my profile.
Pulling the valve was pretty easy. It was a dry soot and not wet at all. One thing I did was use some gun cleaning picks to get alot of the material off along with a stiff nylon brush prior to the carb cleaner. Cleaned it with some carb cleaner, put on new o-rings and gasket from FORD, and installed. Shop vac works wonders during the cleaning also. The only thing I didn't do was put a light coat of oil on the o-rings. Think I got a good re-install. Pushed as hard as I could down and installed the bolts. Test drove, good to go.
Great job FTE....another success story!

How did the EGR valve spring feel? Did it feel fairly strong when "snapping" the plates back into position when you lifted up on them and then let them go?
With as much soot as you had, I would suggest you clean the MAP sensor hose and the EBP tube - just to make sure they are not plugged.

The MAP sensor is attached to a bracket that is next to the oil fill cap - on the passenger side near the back of the engine well. The hose is wrapped with heat protection material.
The EBP sensor is located in several different places depending on model year. Facing the side of the motor on the drivers side look at the font of the valve cover. On the drivers side you will see a tube coming up from the side of the valve cover. On the top of the tube you will see an electrical connector. That is the EBP sensor. Sometimes the sensor is located nearer the front portion of the engine well and others (mine) are located more towards the back of the engine.
The 6.0L Bible has pics IIRC.

Here is what the MAP looks like:

The EBP sensor is located towards the back of the engine on the 05 and up model years. The tube comes from the same place on the valve cover and goes to the sensor - wherever it is located..

If you can not lift the EGR valve plates and/or if they do not "snap back", then you do have a problem. A heavier spring is one of the upgrades that was made in the EGR valve after a few years. I went ahead and bought the upgraded EGR valve on my own - just to keep the system as healthy as possible. Clogged EGR systems, intakes, EBP tubes, etc can lead to problems - even overboost situations. Best to take measures to avoid the problems.
The MAP hose is easy to clean. Remove it and blow it clear with compressed air. I have not removed my EBP tube yet, but it should be do-able - just harder to get to than the MAP hose. Some say when you remove the tube, you can clean it with a flexible .22 caliber gun cleaning rod.
The gasket should be re-usable (although I typically like to replace gaskets once they are removed). Just inspect it carefully before re-using. Replace it, if it is damaged.
