Trans Temp Gauge, Is It Correct?

Hello everyone,
I am preparing my new to me '99 f-350 DRW Powerstroke for a 1600 mile trip from western Montana to the Chicago area. I will be pulling a 43 foot fifth wheel. My question is with the Banks trans temp gauge that is currently in it. Under normal driving (empty) on flat ground, the gauge never moves past 140 degrees. On a slow pull up a fire road you can get the gauge to read up to about 170. Is that a normal occurence or is the gauge not reading accuratly? I don't want to trust my transmission to a faulty gauge.
Thank you in advance

Thats about right where mine runs. Never gets over 150ish under normal driving conditions.

Sounds perfectly normal. My gauge (aftermarket) does about the same thing.

I am heading that way the first week in July to do some construction at an Exxon facility in Arlington Heights. I am going to be staying at an RV park in Marengo for the duration of the job. Going to try a winter in the 5'er!
