i have a super chips tuner for my 2004 f250 with a 5.4L in it. i had the tuner on when i took it into get serviced last time and when i got it back i tried to change the tune for larger tires that i put on but it said "not original vehicle" so i sent it back to superchips to get it "unlocked". i got it back and plugged it in and now it's saying that it's not the factory file or tuning on the truck right now so it won't work. i took it to the dealer to get my computer reflashed and they said they couldn't do anything cause it has the latest update from for on it. any ideas????
Which tuner do you have? If it's the flashpaq or Cortex, they are internet updateable and that will probably cure the problem (if superchips has the new calibration decode already.) When a dealer does a PCM update, it changes the code in it slightly and you run the chance that your tuner doesn't have the correct codes in it. So you need to update the tuner so it has the new calibration and can tune the updated PCM.
It's probably because the "strategy" (or flash) changed.
Can you read the strategy using the Superchips, or did they put a new calibration code under the hood on a sticker? If so, get that to Superchips, they should be able to help you out.

the tue it like stuck in my truck. i sent the tuner back because something went wrong and it said "not the original vehicle" that it had put the tune on. they cleared the programer and uploaded the latest software and sent it back. now the chip says that it's not the STOCK file on my truck so it can't tune it. which i know it's not the stock file because the tune is stuck there. one dealership said they couldn't do anything cause i have the lastest flash from ford on there. shouldn't they be able to clear the PCM completely and reload it with the factory settings? one guy said there is a reprogramable part to the PCM and it's probally fried cause i used my tuner...any truth to that?
oh and i have the MAX microtuner from superchips...still wait to hear from them though. i don't think anything is wrong with the chip cause they reloaded it already....but i could be wrong. the dealer said i probally need to buy a new PCM...which is expensive. i could buy a junkyard one and they could load like my miles that i have on the truck and suck on that one right? but if they can do that they have to clear the files on that one before they load my info so why can't they just clear mine and reload it? this is frustrating!!!!!
The dealer did clear and reload your PCM with A ford file. However if your tuner has a Ford file in it already, it will not want another stock file. The unlocking of the Max tuner should have removed the original stock file and left it as a brand new tuner. With the cleared tuner, you down load the stock file and then it can write the tuned file. It sounds to me like the tuner is locked on the old calibration/VIN.
no, not anymore. when i got it back from the dealer the first time the tuner said it was VIN locked and that i was not trying to program the original vehicle that it tuned. i had a tune on my truck already and i went to change it for larger tires. i sent the tuner back and superchips unlocked it so it's just like having a brand new one. the problem is that the tune it still on my truck and the one dealer i took it to said that they couldn't "reflash" the PCM cause it already has the lastest update. my tuner it fine...in theory anyways according to superchips haha...the tuner can't reprogram anything cause it needs the complete STOCK file to save before you can do any changes. which in my case the tune is still there so it's not the stock fil on my truck...
I'm with you now. I'm surprised they couldn't rewrite the PCM with a calibration. If you talk to your dealer again, ask them if they can reinitialize or load as built files to the PCM.
I don't know if it's doable by the user with the MAX tuner, but with some other tuners, you can get the OE calibration off the internet and then upload it yourself. I know it can be done with Sniper's interface (cause I had to do it once). SCT's can probably do it as well, you might see if anyone locally has either setup and would contact the manuf for your calibration.
ya i thought they could just delete everything on my PCM now and reload the stock or original files just like they have to do when they flash a new computer before they install it. i guess there's something i don't know then...how would i go about finding someone on here locally?
