I just bought a 1995 Rexhall motorhome that the previous owners thinks the transmssion is blown. She said she was driving on interstate doing 70 then she heard a loud pop, thought it was a back fire then it just coast to a stop. Now when you put it in gear reverse or forward it does nothing. It has not leaked any fluid and the drivelines are fine. It is coupled to a 460. Does anyone have any ideas or does it sound like the tranny. I'm pretty sure it has a E4OD. Thanks for any help, Dan.
Check the fluid level with the engine running and engine off, if the fluid level drops with the engine running then the pump is working.
Another thing I have seen in E4ODs, especially in motor homes is the input shaft can strip the splines or crack the spline hub on the overdrive planet, this will cause a sudden no movement. There is a updated planet out there that will prevent this, so make sure you have this planet replaced when or if it needs to be overhauled.
Interesting,
I went ahead and pulled the transmission, it's at the local transmisssion shop. I should know in a couple of days. It's not the drive shaft or rear end for sure. Drive shafts solid.
