My 80' F-100(302/C-6) makes a whining noise when idling in park.It seems to be coming from somewhere around the bellhousing and stops,or becomes too low to hear, when shifted into gear.Fluid level is fine, tranny works fine, just makes that noise. Is this something to do w/the torque converter? flywheel?
I have no tranny service experience so I'm just guessing. Any ideas?
that's why the radio was invented. volume up, enjoy the ride.......
Planning to take mine out and put in a radio-delete plate. It's a cheap, aftermarket, dept.store brand w/a cassette player and besides,a V8 Ford w/dual exhaust sounds way better to me than anything they play on the radio these days.

This seems to be a common thing with the c6's. My 80 did it, and I ran it for over 8 years with no problems with the tranny. The 89 I have now has the c6 and it does it also, and it's been recently rebuilt. It's harder to hear it over the diesel engine, but I can hear it, and also it is noisy in first gear like the 80 c6 was too. Pull the lever down into L1 and drive it, and see if the tranny is noisy. I think this is also a common quirk and nothing to worry about.

Thanks. Glad to know that it's not just mine.I'll try driving it in L1 and see what happens.
