I just got back from town and on my way to town a Toyota in the opposite direction lost a sheet of plywood and it spun end over end hitting the front of my truck. It broke out my grill and put a decent size dent in the hood. I stopped and traffic was heavy so I could not turn around to meet up with the idiot. I finally did and he took off. I tried to follow him but there were about 15 cars in front of me and I lost him. I am so pissed right now.
I have a $1000 ded on collision, which I know is high, and a buddy of mine said it would be about that to fix it. AAAGGGHHH!!! I am so pissed. Not pissed so much about the damage but pissed the idiot took off. We could have worked out something even if the guy had no insurance.
Ok I am done venting.
I was looking at JC Whitney at their punch grill, i had a stock one. Anyone had expirence with their body parts, do they fit well and somewhat decent quality? I think I can iron out the hood dent and replace the bug deflector which will hide most of the dent. The grill would be the most obvious damage. http://www.jcwhitney.com/PUTCO-STAIN...2174_10101.jcw
Ask my wife, my truck is my second baby, after my daughter of coarse. Man I am still fumin four hours later.
You should have uninsured motorist coverage and if you do it would cover this. Only problem is the police should have been called and that would be a problem with filing insurance after the fact.
Police were called and took a report. They looked for the truck too and have not found it yet. I had them take pics and picks of the plywood all over the road to prove where it happened.
Im not sure I make the claim without paying the deductable, I have full coverage with the high ded.
+1 on the salvage yards.Ive seen plenty of Fords in the local yard with the hood, and Grille in-tact.Might have to paint it,but what the hell. Its better than paying the deductible.
My sister and mother(in her Mercedes) got hit by a Lawn Swing that fell out of an on-coming truck..Totalled it.Just goes to show what kind of morons are on the road. these folks had just bought it new from a local Wal-mart,and were taking it home...no one bothered to tie it down.... needless to say the lawn Swing was DOA!
I bought a grille for my 1980 F-150 from JCW, it fit fine and only cost about $35. It was black instead of the factory gray one though, but I didn't care.
I bought the punch grill insert from JCW and it fit great. Looks pretty good and you can't see the original grill is cracked at all. I have a friend that has ironed out most of the dent on the hood and I will install the new bug guard this weekend.
JCW prices were pretty close to what ebay had except JCW had free shipping on my order because it was over $100. It came quickly so I really can't complain.
I appreciate everyones help.
On another note I was thinking of changing my tail lights to LED's. I would stay with the stock look, do not like the euro look (its an american truck not a euro truck) Ebay had some for around $120 for the set, much better than I can find elsewhere. I like the bright LED taillights and think people would see them better. Anyone have any expirence with these cheaper ones? I will be chaning out my headlight assemblies too they are starting to turn yellow, Everywhere I have looked they range from $30 to $40 so I am sure there is not a cheaper place.
you don't have to change out the headlights because they have turned yellow.
kits are available to renew your headlight finish and you can accomplish the same thing with very light grit sandpaper and rubbing compound.
