Man sorry to hear your story.....cause now you'll always have worries about the motor. You might want to get the oil analyzed to see if there is a high metal particle content etc. for your records. Also compression tests to see if it is out of accepted tolerance. Good luck

I'd drive it for 1000 miles and then take it in for an oil change. Cut the oil filter open with the service manager (take pictures). If there is metal, I think you have a good beef and evidence to back it up.

Explain to the service mgr that you have real concerns regarding this engine....suggest that Ford provides an ESP warranty (100,000 mile)....it will be free and a goodwill jesture.

fyi, get a copy of the oasis report and make sure it stipulates that upon inspection the oil pickup tube/filter was found disconnected & all other components were inspected and determined to be within factory tolerences, no damage was observed.

This will provide

A bottom end knock would be a spun rod bearing which certainly can be caused by low oil pressure.

What made you replace the pickup tube in the first place? It doesn't take long for low oil pressure to wreck a motor.

If you go back and read the entire post you'll see that the remanufactured engine from Ford didn't have the pickup tube installed in it to begin with. With that in mind, how was the oil pump primed prior to running the engine the first time?

Whoops, forgot about what originally started this thread. 5 Minutes with no oil pressure is an engine killer. Probably the only thing that saved it from completely seizing up was left over assembly lube on the bearing surfaces. It should also be mentioned the factory oil pressure gauge is worthless, and will show "good" pressure with as low as 7 PSI

oil pump was primed by removing the fuel pump fuse and cranking the engin over with the starter for 15 seconds athen wait then again and again. the install was done by a professional mechanic who worked at ford till new magement he quit and went to another dealer the same day. he is very good and experianced. and family friend for three generations

The oil pump could not have primed if there was no pickup tube....

The oil pump couldn't have primed without a pickup tube on it so the engine never showed any oil pressure during this priming process but it was then started and run for 5 minutes. I'm not a professional mechanic but I wouldn't have ever started the engine until I knew for sure that the oil pump was pumping. Just my opinion and, by not being there, I don't know the circumstances as to why your mechanic would run the engine like that.
