Thumbs up Chip Install...Happy Ending

I have been putting this task off for a couple of week mostly because of all of the horror stories about not gettin the contacts clean, over cleaning and wearing through to the copper, etc. etc. and so on.

It wasn't much fun getting the computer out by myself but out it came through the engine compartment. Took it apart and wiped the white grease off of the contacts. This is a virgin computer, has never had a chip in it before. I only wanted to do this one time.

I wiped some acetone on the contacts then used my thumb nail and found that the coating gets soft and will scrape off. I took an old Star Bucks gift card (Similar to a credit card but transparent) that I used to use to scrape glue off of motorcycle cases. I cut a 1/2" strip and slowly scraped the contacts, working from the center towards the ends.

Then I took a jewelers loop and inspected the contacts and removed the spots that I had missed. Then I took an Ohm meter and gently tested the contacts from the center to both ends. They appeared coating free and very clean.

Installed the chip, hooked it to the truck and bingo....Everything worked as it should. (Have not run the different settings as yet) but fear not!

I installed the switch in the drivers' arm rest. I sure wish someone would have told me what a screaming PITA that job was. I do NOT recommend this installation to anyone. It's not worth the frustration unless you have hands and arms like a raccoon.

My method may seem as over kill to some of you but I only had to do it once.

Glad you got in in Rog. I was wondering about the switch install. Figured it would be rather tasking. Looking forward to your impressions of the chip.

Well I'm glad that you finally got to spend some quality time with your truck. Now you're gonna have to make some time to go out and test drive it.

I could'a told you about running wires into the door. My chip switch is in the dash but I have an electric tailgate lock that's wired into the power lock button in the armrest. Yeah, that was fun. I was gonna use the electric mirror switch as a selector switch for the air horns but decided I had enough fun the 1st time I was in there.

You are so right on that Rodney, it was a bitch and a half. I ended up disconnecting the boot at both the door and the body just so I could snake it in stages. Once I had the wire through I looked up and the switch had fallen inside the door and was out of sight inside the insulation.
I made up a few new swear words, and I think that I have found all of my thrown tools.

I did take the truck out for a test drive and........you know that Dork on TV, Bob with the big smile because he sells a product to extend his peter? I'm smilin' like Bob.

My EGT's are way down, Boost in the 20's when I get on it, engine temp jumped right up to 180* tranny at 130*. I am one happy camper.
It runs like a scalded ape.
