ok i got a 2001 supercab long bed with 140k and its been beat to hell and back i do masonry work and plow in winter . i have had the 65 hp chip since new . the truck just dont have the b***s that it used to have. any advice on anything i can do to give it a tune up to try to get some of the power back. thanks for any help
Yep. Check all your boots. There are four at the intake spider and two down where the tubes connect to the I/C.
And like Cris said, check/change all your filters & fluids. Both diffs now take 75W-140 per a Ford TSB. You can also flush the power steering pump (it takes ATF *not* PS fluid!), and most of us go with syn to quiet it down a bit. The trans can use Mercon V now (also per a Ford TSB), and again, most of us go syn. I used Mobil1 syn Mercon V in mine (PS pump and trans).
If the up-pipes are leaky, it's a bit more involved. Get back to us if there is lots of soot around the turbo collector.
Other than that, have a look at all the common mods (most of what's in my sig )...
just take them off and look at them and clean if needed ?
if you have leaks out your boots you will be losing psi from the turbo, maybe just try tightening the clamps or replacing the boots. if your up-pipes are leaking you are losing exhaust gas before it gets to the turbo, you will need to replace the dounut gaskets there or replace them with the new and improved up-pipes that run a different gasket and are a lot better at handleing the heat and movement of the pipes, when heated and cooled...
