Last time I was here I had just finished my last mod (thanks everyone) hours before I left for the left coast to bring the 5ver home. The trip was a blast and my plans of 2 days to get home turned to 5 days as I took the long way home due to the fun I was having with my "new' truck. I tell ya, the journey is now becoming way more fun than the destination.
Only limitation on the whole trip and my daily driving is my EGT temps. On long grades towing I had to watch that I didn't exceed 1200 while maintaining 70 mph. Other than that the truck has more than ample power for the climbs and I just loved that turbo singing.
MPG on flat ground hauling at 70 mph was 14 calculated and 21 with just me and a very light touch on the pedal, both on 80e. I use 80e for everything when I'm driving but like I said, watch those EGT's. When hauling the 5ver I use the 40 or 60 to get to speed and cruise on 60t or 80e depending on the terrain. 40t for the weight had less issues with EGT's but economy drops to 12 hauling and 18 mpg empty on flat ground. I set out a couple of times to get mpg numbers in the mountains but I quickly found myself playing with the turbo whistle and catching anything towing ahead of me, so no results.
Thinking of a larger exhaust housing for the turbo to dump that heat.
The following 22 sec clip is me nearing the top of about a 4 mile climb at 70 mph. The duramax caught up to me down the road at a traffic jam and said he saw me coming and had more to give but was surprised at the head of steam I still had at the crest of the climb.
You can just hear the turbo spooling down as we reach the crest.
Saving this one for later on with the cable modem.
Congrats on the good trip. I love towing the trailer and listening to the engine work.
I don't even bother with the radio, I have 8 cylinders of turbocharged diesel music under the hood.
Man Rick, that Advatar is kickin, bumpbity bump we go, lol. Glad your enjoying the ATS DP combo, nothing like it. I know about the rolling down the window thing...
