pulling a steering column???

pulling a steering column???

I want to pull a steering column that has the adjustable heighth on it for my 88 f-250... Is that a hard job? Can I do it by myself? Has anyone done it before? how long does it take? what all do you have to do???? what tools will i need??? Oh and most importantly what columns are compatable with my truck? The place I'm going has most all F150's. If they are from the 87-91 era does it matter whether i pull it from a F-150, F-250, or F-350???

not sure if this answers, but i used a column from a 150 to put into my 87 250. was one model year off, i dont remember which way. it was pretty easy, there are 5 or 6 bolts at inside of cabin that need to be loosened, also one bolt at steering box to disconnect. mine had adjustable length between steering box and firewall that was easy to adapt. if you can do it, get whole column from steering box to steering wheel, not just one half or another. don't have to mess with connection just inside fire wall that separates in cabin half from half inside engine compartment. took me about 2 hours working pretty slow.

forgot to add, its almost a one person job, except it helps to have someone to help to set the correct length on the adjustable length cylincer inside the engine compartment. i connect the column at steering box, my son pulled in or out on the column untill the length was correct, then i attached the bolts inside the cab at the firewall.
