Shouldn't my hubs when in auto (lock), when put into 4-wheel dr? I was out at the lake this past weekend and it had rained. My truck started to slide around more than I wanted with mt 3yr old in the truck, so i put it in 4. But I was still spinning my back tires alot didnt seem to spin the front, so when I got to a dry spot I locked them seemed to be much more of a difference. Please help could it just be a broken vacume line?
Bad vacuum line is the most common cause. It's usually pretty obvious once you start looking at the line. About 2' of rubber hose going from the hub over to the frame. The connection at the hub seems to fail first.
I saved this text from someone's post (krewat's?) from a thread I found a while back.....
"To test for a vacuum leak, turn on your ac or heater to front vent. Then turn the **** to 4x4, give it a few second and see if it defaults to the defrost vents. If it does this start looking for a vacuum leak starting at the hubs."
There are a few o-rings and a big seal that could also be the culprit of a vacuum leak. You can see pics of these things in my ball joint write up....
Most likely a broken vac line at the hub. If not, check your front hub bearings for wear. Oversize tires put a lot of stress in this area. Worn hubs can cause the vac seal to fail.
