I have the Tru-Cool that Robin linked to above. It kicks *** and takes 30 minutes to install.

Get the SD install kit if you order one, you'll need it.

I've never seen the true cool kit, but if it's comparable to the cooling capacity of the 6.0 cooler, that's a great price. I have a 6oh cooler and it works great, but you do have to get the fittings, and wallow out the top mounting bracket holes, well at leat you do on an early 99, don't know if there a difference in the frame of a new truck. It took me from about 180-190 to 140-150 degrees.

Tru Cool 4739 = stock V10 = smaller than 6.0 OEM cooler.

Do you remove stock cooler to put in 6.0 cooler? The Tru Cool mounts in front of everything else and is in series with the stock cooler. That would be more cooling capacity then just a 6.0 cooler.

the 6.0 cooler bolts in place of the stock cooler. much larger than stock. the 6.0 cooler has much more cooling capacity than stock.

What I was trying to point out is the stock cooler plus the Tru Cool together have as much cooling capacity as the 6.0 cooler alone.

Chase you can use these fittings from Micromatic.com. They are a beer system supplier and have 3 ditribution centers across the country. That's what I used when I added my auxiliary tranny cooler. My neighbor does bar and soda systems on the side and had a bunch of these types of fitting. The 5/16 ones work well.

Stainless Steel, U, Cross and Elbow Fittings

I don't want to throw a big wrench in these works for the OP, but you can go to NAPA and get their version of the Tru-cool called the Ultra_cool. It dropped my temps significantly and If I recall correctly, it was around $90-$95.

I didn't see any 1/2" x 1/2" on that site Jason, but thanks for the link.
Robin- yes the 6.0 replaces the puny stock cooler, and the Tru-Cool or like is added in line with the stock cooler. The ultimate cooling, IMO, would be to replace stock with the 6.0 unit and throw a Tru-Cool in series with it. If you can overheat your trans after that, you've got bigger issues.

I agree Chase. All depends on what you use your truck for. Hell, add and auxiliary electric fan in front of and add-on cooler. We could go on infinitum. And if money were no object no amount of overkill would be overlooked.

And just for the record... the TruCool Max 4739 is a factory V10 cooler without the factory mounting brackets (TruCool builds the V10 cooler). This pic compares OEM 7.3L with OEM V10 and OEM 6.0:

So a stock 7.3 cooler plus a TruCool 4739 = 6.0 cooler as Robin said earlier. So if you want a replacement cooler, shoot for a 6.0. If you would rather do an additional cooler, go with the TruCool or something like it.

I like the tru-cool myself. I appreciate having it in the very front of all the other stuff, and it was super easy to install.

You mentioned you own a 99. My 99 F250 did NOT come from the factory with an Oil To Air (O-T-A) cooler built into the radiator, I believe 99 was the only year Ford did this. IMHO you should replace your radiator and cooler lines first before considering upgrading your cooler. It may just give you the temps your looking for. You can PM me for P/N#'s as I just upgraded mine, dealer price was well under $300 bucks for everything.

I myself like the fact that the 99's had an external cooler, which I feel would keep things cooler than an integrated cooler like on most vehicles. Dan, why'd you "upgrade" yours?

Actually it was on the advice of John Wood. I now have both a 6.0 cooler and an O-T-A cooler. My temps could'nt be more perfect, I run under normal driving conditions 180 degrees, which according to John Wood is dead nuts perfect.
