i'd been trying to decide what i wanted to do with the front of my excursion for awhile now, when it came to mouting some AUX lights. i decided a bullbar was the way to go, but i'm cheap so i was searching ebay and found a deal for a new bar with skidplate and mouting kit for $149..i jumped on it! i think it looks good on the truck and best of all it gives me a nice sturdy place to mount some lights.
heres the pics
i'll pickup some lights this weekend and install them.
I really like it ! That's the one I was looking at getting myself but not sure how it would fit with on 2000 with a 2005 front conversion as well as the license plate being blocked... Can you post a pic or 2 more of the mounts if you get chance ?
That was why I picked mine up too, wanted a place for lights - and to take up some extra room in parking lots. I found mine on craigslist for $30. kid selling it said it had a small dent in it, which it did. put it on and he must have nailed something good since it had a good twist in it. couple yanks with the come-along and tree and it was back in shape though.
I put at front hitch on when I did the springs and haven't figured out how to modify the bull bar bracket yet to work around that - so it's off again - alas.
Yeah, looks pretty good. I would like to know what lights you are going to use?? Keep us posted on that. I eventually want to get one of those light bars with some round lights, I think that looks sweet.
allrighty, i had a post all typed up but my computer froze and IE stopped working and i lost it
anyway, i'll re-type lol on my way home tonight i picked up some 7" HID driving lights. they match my 6000K HID headlights perfectly and the light output is amazing. i'd been wanting to try these for awhile. i was going to put some halogen Hellas on there but they were sold out. i'm glad i went with them, they claim range up to one mile.
i had the modify the bar alittle to get the rather large lights to fit on it, but it wasnt to big of a deal (drilling new mounting holes and using a hole saw on the back to open up acess to the nut)
i'll try to get some night shots but that will have to wait for the weekend since it doesnt get dark here right now till very late, soon it wont get dark at all lol.
anyway here some pics hope you enjoy
the lights
as you can see with my excursion next to my explorer, i like lights!
Looks just like the Westin I had on my 03 x.... but a lot cheaper ! good buy !
except no skid plate on mine so I mounted the stock fogs upside down under the barand put 55watters i them !
fyi - 2 minute fix for our front tag if u do it like I did,
just move the license frame up between the 2 lites mounted with pop rivets and works fine...
not a peep from the 'occifers" for running with SIX lites up there
dang, am jealous !! ya got me thinkin about doing it to the 05 now ! Miss my lites !
Very nice - I was looking at those lights too - glad they work well for you.
for the license plate I just screwed the bottom of the plate into the top mounting holes in the frame, was easier than messing with the frame and it held it steady enough.
the wiring is tied into the highbeams, since i have a single beam HID kit in the headlights that ment that i lost highbeams. so i added a relay that triggers the lowbeam when the highbeam is engauged. meaning that when you push the highbeam switch forword you dont loose your lowbeam headlights like before.
AK-Excursion: when? i nomraly keep a lookout for other excursions but then again i can be a big of a airhead somtimes haha
and the front plate, yeah i plan on moving it somtime i just have not gotton around to it. i'm debating on moving it to the skid late and adding some factory foglights close together where the plate would go...i'm not sure yet though.
I got a blacked out Ex. Was fueling right next to you. At least I think it was you but might not of been. Same exact paint you have. It was before the bull bar was on I believe.
