I have a 1996 Bronco XLT with a 351W. The truck starts & runs great. The battery is 3 - 4 years old. What is happening is that I do the OBD II drive cycle to clear the monitors that report INC and they reset to OK (using my scanner to read everything), as soon as I shut the truck off and try doing a readiness test again, the same 4 monitors report INC again. I need the monitors reporting OK to pass emissions. They already rejected me twice for the the monitors not being ready. It seems to me that the computer is losing power when I shut the truck off. I am not getting any codes on my scanner and I don't lose my radio settings either. How do I test constant power to the computer and what tools / meters do I need?
To pass the emission test, they have to hook up the OBDII and make sure everything is working- no codes and all the sensors/monitors are working. There is a readiness test that is run to check all the sensors/monitors (Catalyst & O2 for example) if they come up as INC - incomplete, then you don't pass. You need to then go through a OBDII Drive Cycle to reset them: drive this speed for 5 min then idle in park for 40 secs then stop 5 times and idle for 10 secs etc...
My issue is the computer is losing that data after I run the cycle and the monitors register as OK, and then the key is turned off. They don't take appointments for emissions testing here and wait time is hours. So you drop it off and pick it up when their done. I've had the truck since it was new and this is the first time I've run into this.
