You mean totally unloaded, 6686L? If you are unclear why anyone would run more than 55lbs then you need to learn a bit more about tire pressures & loads.
^what he said!!!--i run 60psi tow a 31' tt with a bump-no issues-runs drips or errors!!!!--oh-n-yeah like i already posted--thats MAX cold t-pressure on my D's---
HI MONST. NOPE, ON THE RARE OCCASIONS WHEN I USE THE X AS A CAR, I DUMMP THE AIR DOWN TO 40 PSI. ITS PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO SERVE AS A TOW VEHICLE. OUR BOAT AND ITS TRAILER AND THE TRAILER WE ARE USING AT THE MOMENT TO TAKE OUR 6,000 lb PACKARD V-12 TO A CAR SHOW, EACH HAVE A TOTAL WEIGHT OF AROUND 11,000 LBS. If you are unclear why anyone would run more than 55lbs then you need to learn a bit more about tire pressures & loadsI A.MONST-I AM WILLING TO LEARN. AGAIN, NOT CLEAR WHAT BENEFIT THERE IS TO GOING MUCH OVER 55 LBS.
Short and sweet answer ?
the load rating on tires are only at the max pressure....
anything less than max pressure and the load rating is lower...
just as an example...(haven't done the math)
but say your load rating is 3000 @ 100 psi, and you drop to 90 psi (90% of what it was)
then your load rating COULD be down 10% to 2700 @ 90 lbs....
so round #'s if you tow 11k, then that would put you from 12k load rating to 10.8K (just as an example)

You're kidding, right? Honestly, you've read enough here and been around here long enough to know that running your tires BELOW the factory rating is sheer and utter stupidity. Have you not heard of the Ford Explorer and what happened when the tires were run below recommended pressures? People died due to tread separation caused by heat build up.

The weight is supported by the air. The air is contained and "managed" by the tire. E-rated tires (actually all) need to have their pressures adjusted based on the weight they carry as well as the speeds they will be running.
Since you tow a heavy load you should know your axle weights when loaded. Below is a chart for E-rated tires and the inflation they should be to support the weight.
Keep in mind this is just a guide. Higher pressures (above 55) will serve to stiffen the sidewall which will help with handling, and especially emergency swerve maneuvers and braking.
weight/pressure
1921 / 45
2134 / 50
2348 / 55
2561 / 60
2775 / 65
2988 / 70
3202 / 75
3415 / 80
If you truly want to know the pressures you should run, you need to take your truck to a scale when loaded.
You should also never go below the recommended pressures of 45F / 55R when using your truck "as your car" and traveling legal highway speeds. At 40psi, the tires will only be "rated" to hold about 1700lbs. And that's right on the line of your DRY weight.
