Hello all, I am needing some help. I am driving a 2004 6.0 F-350 SDD DRW Stock. For the last 2 days my battery light has been coming on while normal driving. After driving for a while the light goes out. Had Autozone check my alternator and batteries, They said all were fine. I dont remember what the alternator was putting out but the batteries were at 12.94. The belt seems fine as well, I thought it might be the belt. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Mike
My 2003 6.0 is doing the same thing as described above. Had the batteries and alternator checked this morning at Autozone abd the checked out ok. I don't really want to pay $80 to have the the Ford place diagnose the problem. Should I go ahead and replace the alternator?
Assuming they checked the alternator while on the truck, you could take it off and let them bench test it. Worked auto parts for five years and that is way more reliable. My 01 comes off extremely easy not sure about yours.
Really dont understand why auto companies put a battery light in a vehicle to serve as a charge light. It should be an alternator light..
Anyway, tje problem you guys are having is most likely in the alternator. This was discussed earlier here on the board. The trucks mentioned all use the 6G (sixth generation) ford alternator. The reason you have a flickering light is because the brushes in the regulator are worn out.they will make contact and loose contact causing the light to go on and off. Also the brushes usually cut a groove in the rotor so both parts needs replaced.A good local rebuild shop should be able to get you back on the road at a reasonable cost.
As mentioned this was discussed at length in some older post here on the board. If you want more info on this just use the search feature on the board.
BTW rogerz1 welcome to the board. almost anything you'll ever need to know about a ford can be located here somewhere.

Actually it used to be a generator light. Not to question your intelligence but thats what it was before they were alternators. But it does read your battery charge if your alternator quits working if you have a gauge. But maybe if were a "car challenged" person and it said alternator you wouldn't realize your battery is about to die. Just about everyone knows what a battery does but most couldn't tell you if their car had an alternator and esp not what it does.
