Floor shift is forced on you when you buy buckets. Been that way since 2004. The trucks with the 40/20/40 seats have the column shift. For what its worth... the driver and passenger seats in both configurations are the same. They are both technically bucket seats. Good luck in the search... I would never buy the floor shifter either.
I saw one at the dealer on Sunday. I miss my 02 column shift. My girlfriend can't scoot over as close to me anymore. Love the floor shifter when I'm transporting the wife though.

RITFLMAO
There's so much truth to that.
The '01 in my sig had the bench seat. My wife and I were engaged when I got the SD, which had buckets. At first I kinda missed the bench. Now, 4 years later, any amount of personal space is appreciated.

Unfortunately it seems I cannot rep you till I spread it around some more
You CAN get the column shift in the XLT with the bucket seats and the center console (not flow through). I wish they offered that on the Lariat. The Plat only comes with the floor shifter.
I like the floor shifters . I don't know why they put them on the column ?? There suposed to be on the floor thats where the trany is .. I never had a girlfriend that didn't like to have the stick between her legs .... Lew

That sucks. I also played with Ford's Build It and I can only select a few options without including a group all by itself, dramatically increasing the price. Sigh...
Right on. What's harder than finding a column shift truck? Regular cabs! It's all Crew Cabs...or Supercabs.

That's not the reason I want a column shift...Nope, not at all.
Out of curiosity, is that a personal preference, or is it a technical reason?
Both I suppose. The floors seem to be a bit problematic, sticking in the P position from time to time. I will always have a column for three main reasons:
1.) I can sit three across on the 40/20/40
2.) I like the actual height armrest, versus the lower console
3.) If **** ever hits the fan... I don't want to be "stuck" in the drivers seat
The floor shift seems to take up a lot of space that is really useful if you have a lot of stuff or people in the rig. I have searched dealer lots all over for a bench seat lariat and cant find one. I am nearly at the point of buying one of the f250s with a bench that are marked way way down. I really don't want to have to wait for and order a 2010 model.
I have never liked 40/20/40 seats as it was always way to cramped for 3 people in the front. Especially 3 grown men. I used to have to deal with being in the middle for months on end for 3 hour trips into and from work and never ever ever would i put anyone through that. I would pay the extra and get a screw so they can sit in the back and not be rubbing my leg the whole trip.
I like the column shift also. Partly because I like nothing on the floor, it feels like it has more room. The other reason is nostalgia. Every car has a floor shift these days, it's nice to have something different, and keep a pickup, the way a pickup should be. I also like a side-exit tailpipe.
