Lightbulb Painted Exhaust Tips

Found out I hadn't downloaded my good camera for about 2 months...and found some pics of my dearly departed truck

Thought some of y'all might enjoy

Took my original SS Magnaflow 3.5" tips and painted them black using BBQ Paint. Took 'em off my truck after 3yrs of being installed...talk about a PITA.

Cleaned them up using a steel brush and scrubby.
Used the scrubby for 2 reasons.
1. Get the 3yrs worth of crap off
2. Create small adhesion scratches in the SS surface so the paint would stick.

Not bad for $5 and about 2 hours of my time. I drove it for 2 days with them like that, and they didn't turn brown or anything. Paint still looked fresh.
I especially like the look because it seems to flow with the whole White/Black theme I had going on

The next step was to paint my Steps black...but sold her first

Those are black?! I need to adjust my monitor settings...

Funny...unless and until I change out my exhaust to something different, I always paint the stock pipe black. It looks crappy bare.

I think that you are one of the best users here. Your sharing of the Mods that you did to the truck has been great. I feel for you about how you were separated from your truck.

pretty much is part n' parcel of being a part of this site
get help if needed

share some ideas and float new ideas to get opinions

"borrow" the good ideas that actually pan out
besides, I get bored with stock vehicles...I always mess with my stuff. Luckily the FX4 turned out pretty nicely. I learned from my prior vehicles...I think. We'll see what I do with the newest toy

yep...a very shiny black. It almost looked like Black Chrome since the paint was still fresh and shiny. I was wanting a more Matte look, but it turned out okay, so I went with it

Looks Awesome. I saw on Truck U that Dupont (sp?) actually makes an exhaust paint. I'm going to do everything you can actually see in black (won't go up to the cats, etc). Nice job!

When I fabricated and welded my exhaust for my truck a few years ago, I took the exhaust to my work and hung it up in the paint booth and painted it in low gloss black. The guys thought I was crazy, but almost 3 years later, other than some stone chips on the tail pipe, it's holding up fine. I did the same thing when I had my 2002 FX4. It's not every day you see a painted exhaust tips.
