hi everybody, I am building an off-road pre-runner out of my 66 F-100. as it sits it is a 4X4 with a 352 CI motor. it has the original 4 speed manual tranny, and simple four wheel drive or not four wheel drive Transfer case. I want to keep it four wheel drive. and I want to keep the FE block in it. but I want to change out the Tranny and Transfer case. I am going to use a C6 Tranny with a manual shift body in it. I want to use an NP 205 or NP 203 Transfercase also. does anybody know. will this all meld together. and what years of Fords and Models can i get these items out of. also I think the Front end is a Dana 40. I would like to keep that as well. so any info on if the items I want to use will work. Thanks again.

Use a later 70s up till 76 FE bell C6 and mate the ford case of choice.
Post pictures of the progress!

just make sure you dont get a c-6 out of a 385 series(ie... 460) as the bell housing is incorrect, and cant unbolt the bell from the tranny on the `big blocks`
billie, a FE is not a 385 series, there's the difference.

John, i was infourming the OP that theres a differeance between the 385 series and and FE c-6... as in the 385 bellhousing is permentally attached to the tranny... its all just one case... and the FE... you are able to remove the bell housing... was letting him know to be careful on what he buys... as he wouldnt be able to mount the FE engine to a 385 series c-6 trans

That is not correct. The C6 tranny is offered with three bells, one is often referred to a small block for the I-6, 302, etc, the FE which is round top and the 385 that is extra tall and wide top bolt spread. There is no mistaking them, they aren't anywhere close.
All C6s are one piece. You may be thinking about the C-O-M that came on the trucks in the years of this forum that has a 3 piece body. They are not the same tranny.

Yeah, I was getting confused about the bell houseing coming apart. the C6 we have in our class 8 race truck is all one piece. If I find a C6 out of a 2 wheel drive, is there a way to change it to work for a 4 wheel drive?

Ok, here is another question for you. The truck still has the original arm powered manual steering geer box on it. i want to put power steering on it. even if its out of a newer truck. but I dont want to have to change a ton of stuff to make it so. any suggestions on years to look for. or places on the net to buy stuff like that.
Doug
Hi John. its a good idea but a few problems with it. The rear suspension of the truck is nearly done, the Roll cage in the cab is done, and a few other things. the other problem is the truck has massive sentimental value to me and my father. I want to keep as much of the Truck's Original "spirit and Soul" intact. It may sound dumb, but the truck has been in the family since the mid 70's. it was retired as an everyday driver work truck about 5 years ago. instead of getting rid of it, I decided it was time to make it a fun truck.
