EFI Question

I've got an 87 F150 4x4 5.0L (auto) with a MAP EEC-IV system and it's never ran right. The engine was a crate motor and is a little cammed up and might be a little higher compression than stock. I was told that because it wasn't stock, the computer couldn't adjust for it because it didn't have a MAF type system and essentially couldn't effectively measure air coming in.

So I went to the wrecker last week and all I found was a EEC-V system out of a 96 4x4 (manual). The connections are different and the distributor doesn't have the TFI on it. I got the computer, most of the harness, distributor, and the intake system with the MAF.

I just wanted to know if this swap was still doable, would the older sensors work with the newer computer or did I just waste a bunch of my time and money on paperweight parts.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated, I just want the old girl up and running. If I don't get this sorted out soon she's getting a carb and thats final.

The '96 is OBD-2 and your old '87 is OBD-1 so there are a more wires and sensors on the newer system that your motor isn't even setup for. The swap is still doable since you got a manual version of the OBD-2(no tranny control lines) but you're gonna need a tuner to turn off some of the routines for the sensors your motor doesn't have, or you'll have to add all these sensors to your truck. The distributor isn't a big deal since Ford moved the TFI to the fender in '92 or something like that, you should be able to find one that will work.
