rear axle
i have an 83 f100 300 i6 4x4 and the sticker on the door jamb says the axle code is 174. does anyone have any idea about the ratio in the rear axle? i cant find anything about it at all. rear end locked up last night, and i need to know what to replace it with to match the front axle.

most f100s after 197? were 2wd and converted to 4wd so your door sticker is possibly wrong the best way to tell is to find the tag on the axle. It shold be on the front passenger side of the pumpkin but can be in lots of places. Get the numbers off the tag and post them up. Another way is the jack up the truck and count the number of turns the wheel makes compared to the drive shaft.
