I'm thinking of getting a bull bar on my X. Only problem is that it is a 2000 with a 2005 front conversion... Does anyone know if I would get a BB made for a 00-04 or one for the '05. Not sure what the difference would be ( mount, clearance issue etc...)
If you did a full conversion with bumper it looks like you will need to order the 05-07 bull bar - at least they have them separated out on the sites selling them.
You may have to shim the brackets, but with the 05+ bumper you need the 05+ bull bar. If you still have the 99-04 bumper life will be much easier as you just throw on the 99-04 bull bar.
Well I bought the truck with the conversion and from what I can see it looks like a complete front bumper conversion ... so looks like I may end up having to get the 05 and see how it works out. Not sure what the main diff is in the bumper and mounting it though ...
Most of the kits available now for the 99-04 will have brackets that bolt to the two bolts next to the tow hooks. I don't believe the 05+ leaves these bolts visible or accessible. There were some old kits by weston that mounted to the bottom of the frame, and I suspect this is how the 05+ are mounted.
fyi - The pic of the westin on my 03 in my gallery was bolted to the tow hook bolts on the INSIDE of the tow hooks... https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=25204&width=0
and my 05 has the bolts on the "outside" of the tow hooks,
but they are quite "out in the open", could easily get to mine....
I bought an e-series bull bar in polished stainless from summit. It was a westin, and the tow hook bolts were the ones that hold the brackets on. In fact, I am glad you posted this because I owe some of the folks on here some pics of my bull. Summit had a good price too if I remember right. Hope this info helps a little.
i just got a black bar with a skid plate on E-bay for $149, i installed it yesterday and love it! i was going to post up some pics alittle later..i went for it because of the price mainly i couldnt see spending over $200 honestly.
