recommendations on egr delete kits

as the title states i am looking for your recommendations on the best kit to completely delete my egr and cooler.... currently my truck is F.O.R.D ( yup found on road dead) about 150 miles from here untill i can tow it home. There was a huge cloud of white smoke/steam comming from my exhaust and my temps were pegged out at max. I am hoping it is just my egr cooler that is shot and not the heads. Got it shut down before it started to run rough and i used my info center for a system check and it said all temps were ok.

I installed the First Coast Diesel egr delete kit in my 2004 PSD. His kit includes a modified intake manifold as well as the delete tubing and up pipe. I was very impressed with the quality of the manifold tig welding and the rest of the kit as well. He answered all my questions and delivered as promised. I would use his products again

Does this eliminate the egr cooler problem as well?

I SECOND RIGGZ & RICKATIC'S POST.

I did a full delete from First Coast Diesel Performance. TOP NOTCH!!!!!

For the money (my opinion) you get SO MUCH MORE.

You get a hot tanked intake manifold that has been modified (heliarced) to reroute the coolant flow and a 180* (also heliarced) tube and a modified up-pipe that fits perfect!

When I removed my manifold it was down right NASTY from all the years the CCV, that FORD so ingeniously routed into the intake, flowed into my turbo tube, turbo, intercooler tubes, intercooler etc.. My IAT sensor AND BOOST fitting were so gummed up I dont even know how they functioned properly.

It is a LITTLE bit more (you front 250.00 core that you get back when you return the cores). I researched them all and I was so pleased with the product I got.

Call Adam Brennan or go to Firstcoastdieselperformance.com and check it out. I opted to keep my EGR valve in place and plugged in for emission visual purposes. The light comes on sometimes. You can get an SCT tuner through Innovative Diesel that has programs written to completely remove the EGR programming from the PCM altogether...or live with the light. No performance lost because of it. I am running an older Superchips tuner but have plans for an SCT eventually. YOU WILL NOT GO WRONG WITH THIS KIT!

On a side note........If you decide on a kit....service your turbo, update the feed line and oil drain tube while you are in there.

Good Luck with your kit endeavors

Joe

How hard is it to do this modification ? (egr delete)
Has anybody done a write up?
Tried to do a search , and came up with nothing.
Joe Blow . You say service your turbo. Whats involved in that?
I'm still learning the mechanics of my 6.0.

I did mine in my well equipped home garage. My nephew helped me. We had never seen the insides of a 6.0. He is small, smart, mechanically adept and tough. Why was that important. He spent ten hours sitting in the engine well. Overall it took about 10 to 12 hours over a couple of nights. The job is not that difficult. Just take it apart one piece at a time and mark everything you unplug or unbolt so you reassemble correctly. As I posted before and two others have supported my statement, the First Coast Diesel EGR Cooler Delete kit was my choice after looking at what else was out there. I liked the fact that you got a modified manifold. The modified up pipe is also included. The workmanship is first class and the tech help was excellent. I took an extra hour or so to replace the high pressure oil pump screen. This was highly recommended by others on this site and mine was about 25% plugged. You have to remove the oil filter/oil cooler assembly but it is only held on with 6 or 8 bolts. While I had the oil cooler out we back flushed the oil cooler to see if there was any casting sand in it. It came out clean. It is a big job that I would take on again, but only if I had to. The end result is I have put on about 4500 miles since doing the delete kit, mostly towing a 4000 pound trailer. My coolant loss and white smoke issues have gone away, there is no puking out the degas bottle and I am well satisfied. Hope this helps.

Good Luck

Rick

Man oh man I wish I would have done the HPOP screen. Unfortunately NOONE turned me onto this idea when I was fishing around for information. Considering I only have 40k on my 2004 and it get s regular 4k oil changes, I think Im ok.

pete98cobra,

I will get back to you...I gotta go to work

maybe someone could do a writeup on this job. or does the first coast kit come with install instructions? it would be nice to compile all these things into one writeup as far as all extra parts that are recomended to be change while in there, this is great stuff

There is no writeup for the First Coast kit. There are downloadable instructions that are directly out of the FORD manual which I threw in the trash. The only help I got from them was for the torque sequence/lbs for the intake.

Common sense takes over most of the time. It helps to have alot of mechanical aptitude and a great selection of tools.

It is hard to hold someone's hand and itemize every bolt removal on a job like this. This is not a hard job, but you definitlely have to know what you are doing for it to come out right.

I can almost guarantee if I did it again.......I would dread it just as much (j/k)

Good Luck
Joe

Great thread and posts guys!

I've not done an EGR delete but, in the past when tackling projects of this nature it always helped me to take pictures along the way. It's nice to have a visual reference of the way items were when you were going through the process instead of relying on memory. Tagging/labeling parts or placing them in marked zip lock bags also helps a great deal.

I'd like to delete the EGR cooler on mine but with the Kali Diesel smog checks being implemented I'm not sure that it's a gamble I'm willing to take.
