how do you tell?
1. Jack one side up and see if you can rotate the tire that is up in the air. If you can't turn it very much then it has a limited slip.
2. Put one rear tire on a surface that has a lot of traction and the other side on one that doesn't and spin the tires. I.E. put one side on pavement and the other on grass or gravel. If both spin you have a limited slip.
3. Pull the third member off that 9 inch and look at the differential itself. If it has clutch packs then its a limited slip. If all you see are spider and side gears in there, then it's an open diff.
