If you want to keep the 400 then more power to you BUT if you want to make serious power you will first need to ditch the heads and look for the Austrailian 351C 2V head. That alone will bring you up about a point and a half in compression. They are hard to come by but do a search and should find a company in Calif. who can get them.
It's a pretty good article. This could probably be done for a little bit cheaper, but this definately shows how much money it'll take to build a true 500 hp 400. These are the first set of aluminum heads I've been able to find that work on the engine.......and they aren't cheap!
Are you guys exceeding the speed limit? LOL I'm sure if you spend enough money you could superturbonitrousfy a 4 cylinder to go fast yada yada... Why not buy a crate V10 from Mopar and adapt it? or or Is budget an issue here and are we drag racing? Geez now I think I may need a Cobra 5.4 DOHC in my mustang now instead of my 4.6 SOHC. If you go smallblock, I'd root for getting a roller tappet cam from a newer 5.0.
yeah... that can't happen... i'm on a super tight budget. i was even considering bringing the truck to my school to deck the blocks myself.
i'm not looking for outrageous #s. i have a 4v carb for the engines... all i plan on putting in it are cam and intake. the truck already has duals, and there's no way i'm putting headers on it b/c the truck isnt going to be crankin' 5500 rpms any time soon.
if i can get 300+ hp, then that would be nice... 400+ lbft of torque would be awesome, but i want to hot rod the truck every now and then.
