I was in the junk yard this weekend and noticed big signs about how congress is trying to shut down these businesses. No surprise. I guess if they are giving cash for clunkers they dont want them back on the road. Now with this and the goverment owning businesses like Government Motors, its getting harder and harder for me to think I live in a free democracy.
All politics aside, I hope the government doesn't strong arm GM into making a bunch of wimpy hybrid vehicles. They need to make good looking, high functioning cars again. I think the Chevy Malibu in all honesty is a great start in that direction. Toyota has a high efficiency, lean manufacturing system that works incredibly well, and we need to take cues from that also.
Part of this 'bailout' should have had provisions that said GM, Ford, and Chrysler need to bring the manufacturing jobs back here from Mexico and South America where they outsourced it years ago. If you're going to complain about no one buying American cars, you should at least build the damn things here.
