After talking to Mike at 5 Star, I decided to go with the X3 as it seamed to be the best bang for the buck out of any of the programers/chips that I found.
It'll make the truck get better mileage due to the MUCH lighter wallet in your back pocket.
You couldn't give me a livewire-they're a big steaming pile of poo.

Ha! The Livewire does cost more but it allows you to mount the unit on the dash and displays data such RPM's, engine temp, etc. The Livewire is not required to be mounted, it's just an option. The X3 has the same functional features as the Livewire and is a better value.
Hi Guys
Thanks for the comments. Very sharp truck Quill Gordon.
The Livewire has improved since its intro and has come down on cost a lot. I myself prefer the X3 but I am a simple kind of person. Either flash unit provides a means to get tunes onto vehicle and both can data log and are internet updateable.
Thanks. So what kind of improvements could I expect over stock other than mileage? Better response from the throttle with a 87 octane tune? Horsepower? I'm really not a light the tires up kind of guy but would like to feel like I could throw the hammer down when need be for passing and what have you. I don't tow much either just a Echo ATV trailer with a couple of ATV's on'er.
Si, I would probably do a 87 economy, 87 performance and a 91 tow as I don't know of a station setup with 93 octane in these parts. What could I expect with these three choices?
Those are good choice's. An 87 perf type tune is what most run 95% of the time. Good power and performance and if you keep the foot out of it you can pick up some economy.
I've only been using the 93 Octane - Perormance tune and I love it! The tuner look that delayed take-off response away. If I get the RPM's above 3K, the truck runs like it has a race engine. As for unit itself, I have not mounted it in the cab yet because I'm trying to factor in all the future goodies and where it would be best located. The unit does have four digital displays of your choice that are as good as standard gauges. I want to get a GPS unit and back-up monitor... once I get those I can start arranging them in/on the dash.
Overall, I'm very happy with the tunes and the looks/functionality of the Livewire!
Quill, the flowmaster didn't do a lot, but it sounds better. the tuner is what made the difference. i went with flowmaster because there aren't a lot of choices out there. the banks monster exhaust is way to much; jba's are hard to come buy; gibson's give me a headache. i was able to get the flowmaster for $250 and it gives the truck a throatier sound. it is mild but i like it. the only problem i had with it it that tip discolored on me and it is supposed to be stainless. i instead put a 4" gibson intercooled tip on it. i do wish the exhaust was stainless steel though
