Well on aroad tip today I went to enter the freeway when i get a pof and whoosh noise and lots of white smoke. With turbo fluttering and low boost levels i figured i either blew a boost hose or the turbo was on its way out, I limped to a friends house then pulled my intake tube and whatdya know the wheel was moving side to side, i only hope i didnt tear up my housing and ship chips down stream. So my buddy tells me he has a ambulance turbo (van turbo) up at the shop after the rest of the engine sold like brand new with all the paper trail to show where its been for 500 so i need a turbo and guess im gonna go get it tomorrow, any comments?
for the record I am running AC single shots, a dp tuner with 60 tow, 80 econ and 140 extreme. A 4 in turbo back no muffler and have the ITP reg return kit to go on and the oil crossover tube.
only concern is fitment of the turbo, will a van turbo have ANY fitment issues at all? or is it pretty much a bolt in operation, also i have a WW should i put er in or not?
The van turbo is bolt-in, but you have to have a different outlet adapter. The van has a smaller down-pipe, so it has to be changed to fit our down-pipes. Here's what mine looks like compared to the stock one. Got it from Ron's Turbo Service:
Also, you'll need to gut the EBPV actuator out of the pedestal since the custom adapter has no EBPV. I just did this today on my stock pedestal. It's easy. All you need is a 1/4 NPT plug and a tap for it. You don't even have to drill -- the hole is already the right size for tapping!
I like it a lot! WAAYY lower EGTs, but some lag on the bottom end. Definitely favors the top end of the power curve. Your C-codes will help with that. I'm assuming your tunes are set up for those injectors, right?
