i have 96 f150 4x4 am tryin to remove upper and lower ball joints have a removal kit with a million pieces and no instructions and the haynes manual sucks any help would be greatly appreciated
if you have the knuckle off already just get the snap rings off of them then beat em up with a hammer...they pound out upward so hit em on the flat side...do the bottom ones first then its more open you can get something through there to bit the other one...make sure you arent using them again though because once youve beat em out they are toast
I just did mine on my 92 F150 4x4. Everything was rusted badly from the salt in mn. I had to use a pickel fork on the lower joint and heat to get the knuckle off. Would not come off any other way. I have a ball joint kit with the big c clamp set up to Press them out and the new ones in. There is a cylinder that fits a little bigger than the joint over the stem side then you put the round end piece with the hole in it over that. Then put the c-clamp with the hole side lined up with the other hole and press it up and out. You do the bottom one first I think and then you put the threaded c-clamp in that hole to press the other one out. Then you use a socket part that fits over the stem to press the new ones in. You have to do it just the opposite way they came out. I used a piece of flat stock to press it in till it hit the flat stock, then used the little socket piece that fits bigger than the joint. Hope this helps.
