What do the Colors Mean!!!!!!

I Have a 2003 F-250 SD With the factory Towing Package. The only thing is that the old owner decided to hard-wire the controller in to the truck instead of buying the jumper harness that you can buy to hook up the controller....Now I have to install one again...but i don't know what the colors all mean on the truck-side of the harness....Theirs 5 on the truck side and 4 on the controller side....Any help ia Great Help!!!

Controller should have red, white, blue, and black. Red is for the when the controller lights up when you step on the brakes, white is ground, blue goes back to the 7 pin harness, and black is for power. What are the colors on the factory jumper harness?

What Do The Colors Mean???

I did a Little bit of digging around and figured out most of it.......The factory harness has 5 wires in it: Brown, Red, Green, White and Blue.....So far that i know is that red is 12Vconstant,Green is the Brake signal to the controller,White is the ground, and there it goes foggy....

Realistically the blue on the controller would go to the blue on the trucks harness,right??But then it only leaves the brown wire on the truck harness.I figured it gets power when the lights are turned on,. but don't know what its for....If I can just leave it alone I would because that's one too many wires i need for the controller...

To make it simple, the blue on the truck harness and the brown on the truck harness,Any ideas?

Brown on trailers is usually running lights- Maybe for illumination on the controller??

You might best be served by just getting the Ford connector. You might be able to get the part number from the F250 forum if no one knows it here, and your dealer is not able to help.

Also, Tekonsha sells the adapters.

Or am I misreading this, and did the prior owner cut off the Ford connector?

Good luck,

Hopefully this will help. It's from the 2004 service manual, but it looks like all the wire colors are the same.

BN=Brown, WH=White, RD=Red, LG=Light Green, DB=Dark Blue

Edit: The Brown wire says "Power - Exterior Lamps". I believe that this really means console illumination and is not used with any brake controller that I have seen.

Looking at colors is basically racism. Be color blind.
