360/390 temp sending unit location
I'm trying to straighten out everything with this motor. There appears to be a temperature sending unit directly on the thermostat housing and one on the intake right behind the distributor cap.
The previous owner had a second temp guage screwed into the bottom of the dash and the factory temp gauge disconnected.
What's the deal here? Why would there be two?

The factory sending unit is on the intake, he just ran a mechanical sending unit from the thermostat housing, i do the same, for instance your engine could be running anywhere from 180 to 210 degrees and the factory gauge is not accurate enough to tell you the true temperature and would probably not even move or at the very least only slightly, the only way to get an accurate reading is by installing a mechanical gauge.
