Transmission Pan

Looking to change the fluid and filter for my 83 4.9L with I believe is the C-6 tranny. Autozone list 2 different filters, one for a shallow pan, one for a deep pan. How do I tell which one I have? I am having to change out the modulator and figured I would do all of it at once, as I am sure fluid will come out of the modulator when I remove it, correct? Also, what fluid, Type 'F' or?

E5TZ7A194E .. DEEP Oil Pan-Use with 4WD

Fits C6: 1980/89 F150/350 & Bronco / 1980/83 F100's were not available with 4WD.

1977 and later C6 transmissions use MERCON. 1966/76 C6's use Type F.

OK, great! Shallow pan and Mercon. (Mine is an F-100). Reason I was curious is in the mid 90's I had an old '78 Granada with a C-4 that used type 'F', and wasn't sure if they still used it in the 80's model trannies. Thanx!
