Does anyone have a picture of the factory aluminum mags that came on these trucks? I came across a set of inverted five spokes today but they do not have any center caps. I know they are factory, I just have not seen them in a long time.
All of the factory rims had the 3 threaded holes for the black plastic center caps (although the later model chrome will fit also).
If they are not tapped for the centers, then they are aftermarket.
I found 2 black plastic centers today but they had light cracks in between the mounting holes. The black plastic caps are very hard to find.
When I was younger,me and my dad used to go out and look for the newer 8-spokes for his truck, and I remember finding a 73-79 with the older style 8-spokes and black caps on a truck.I took the screws from the caps, but not the caps themselves. My dad doesn't know much about Ford trucks, and I was too young at the time to know all the different options for these trucks. If I had known these were hard to find,I would've probably had my dad grab them if they were in good condition. That truck I saw them on is now long gone, but there's an old 1st gen Bronco(66-72 kind)out there that I believe has original 8 spokes that might still have the caps. Both trucks had these...
You can also see the screw holes stosh is talking about.
I always thought they were factory. I have only seen them on the ford trucks. Now I am going to have to go back to the yard. It should have ford stamped on them if they are factory, right?
This is where I found the photo. This site shows 1982 to 1984 15x6 ford trucks. They looked in good shape, but could use a good scrubbing. Should I buy them if they are factory just so they won't be destroyed?
I have NEVER seen these wheels before on these trucks except for this picture,so If I were you,as long as the price is right,I would grab them. You could probably make alot off of them once you clean them up.
IMO, they look too "busy" for our body style and would only be valuable to the right person. Kind of like the one year only 87 Flareside fenders I have.
They would be worth a lot more if you had the center caps as well.
