The converters on my 05 V10 have died or atleast that's what the dealer said. The check engine light stays on and the code is for the cats. Has anyone bought some lately for a decent price? Ford's price is high to me but maybe that's all you can get. With 240,000 miles maybe that's all the life they have. With this many miles the truck may not be worth what a new set of converters cost. Any help or suggestions would be great.
Bear River makes universal cats that are pretty cheap. If you can weld then you can save yourself some big money. They also make direct fits as well but they are alot more money.
I know a set of O2 sensors is a bit much $'s to throw at it, but are you sure that the O2 sensors after the cat are OK? Did they tell you what codes it threw?
Put universal cats on and get an SCT tuner to turn off the rear o2s. If/When you get a new truck in the future you have the tuner for the new truck. I'm willing to bet universal cats and the tuner will be cheaper than just one OE cat. Check and see if your local emissions/inspection will pass the universals. Just gutting a cat is a bad idea because of the oversize body, if gutted a pipe should be put through the center of the cat.
