just saying hello
health wise the s--t keeps flying my way. i think i should own one of the nyc hospitals by now with i've had to see them get paid.
my left leg won't let me drive a stick shift anymore so the mustang has become a easier to get in and out of pick up again. used but loaded to the gills. used to be lifted, now it's slamed back down to stock. power is enough for me with it's small inline engine. no it's not from japan. it is usa made and breed.
toy wise that is a 1928 ford model A pickup. needed a motor. after a wild dec 11th 08 ice storm in my part of new jersey caused the loose of 7 large maple trees. 2 of which wound up onto and crushing my runabout boat. it's 200 hour young 4 banger gm marine engine is now powering the model a. with a power glide behind it. nice week end driver. unless i have the hood off. it's who knows what is the power plant.odd for sure.
hope every one of you is doing ok and those of you who are younger learning one major thing about a v10, drive it don't screw with it. they way longer and just as well as rodded.
in marine form merc.uses dished pistons at 8.25 to 1, volvo uses flat top at 9.2 to one. and when run on propane or narural gas they bump it up to 10.5 to 1 with dombed pistons and a low rpm high torque cam shaft . rated at 73hp on natural gas and 64 hp on propane.
i opted to pop in a set of 10.5's from a 350, kept the marine camshaft. and thanks to stahl headers made my own intake/exhaust combo manifolds. some 1 3/4 inch tubing. a 20 inch cherry bomb muffler with the end's cut off, to gut it. made the intake up so i could use the stock marine carb. the header end is a simple 4 into one going 2 1/2 into 1 3/4 inches out the back looking like a stock model a system.
it's lowered with about 4 inches of ground clearence. sports a real 32 grill shell and custom made wire wheels. right now it's in hot rod black primer and will be over the winter be coming pulled all apart again and painted a almost black solid deep blue from tractor supply and sport black running boards.
now if of you know about these old trucks.all the panels where very small in size and every one bolted together or rivited. the body's had oak wood to reinforce them and bolt them to the frame, form the roof so the canvas could be nailed down before it was painted to water proof it. nothing like todays trucks for sure.
my only wish was if only a v10 would have fit under the hood with out adding about 18 inches to the frame rails and making the rails wider. just to much work for a guy my age.
wrench traveler says hello. as many know he totaled his v10 a year ago. and is now driving a gm branded 3500, dualy smoker truck due to lack of trucks around where he lives in canada. and the need to tow his 5th wheel. he retired from his old job. a few months back. and gone into selling rv's both towed camper's and ford based ones. he dose admit he misses the v10 at times but admits the dmax is a very sweet, smooth running motor that is very easy on fuel, and never needed to be pluged in all winter in BC canada
i have to agree. my new used truck is also a bow tie. i wanted a v6 ranger 4x4. and could not find one any where in good shape. that i could pay cash for. mine is a a colorado z71 off road,ls extra cab.5 cylinder motor, auto 4x4 . for now it gets me around. gas milage it's the very same as my 05 v10 250 got. but as soon as money gets back to normal. it will again return to a ford and another v10 if they still make them in about another 2 or 3 years. i already know it will be a 250 v10 2x4. extra cab to tow the model a to shows and back. i don't drive in snow or at night any more so another 4x4 is a waste of retirement dollars that are short enough as it is.
bset wishes to you all and a great summer.
projects are in our blood man............ oil flows better threw our veins than red blood cells!!
i have upgraded my Z71 ........... i watered it enough it FINALLY grew into and Excursion with none other than............the BIG10 man!! it was a heck of a deal (not going to bore you with details), i couldn't pass it up. traded my 92 Z71 and 2K cash for it, and am loving it every day i drive it!!
it's a 2002 XLT, V10 (of course), 4x4, factory 4.30's with limited slip, with 142K on the clock. i've already added some upgraded stereo components (what i had in m Z71), i figured i have them why not use them. it had the vinyl floors put in to replace the carpets (i love that feature for a work vehicle, REAL easy cleaning), the 3rd seat was taken out long time ago (need to find me one of them), and then i have a laundry list in misc cosmetic add ons that i'm planning on doing.........
i have the F250 almost where i like it so i've toned down on the big truck mods, especially since i got the Ex now, haha
good to hear from ya man!! you need to drop on more often, the V10 forum has greatly missed you, i can assure you that!
