I did my foil delete today. I used airplane paint remover. I ripped off the foil and fur, and had to scrape some of the hair off for the stripper to work, but it sure did a good job. i used a plastic scraper, then added stripper once more. then i used a chore-boy (metal pots & pans scrubby) then rinsed clean.
only took less than 1/2 the can. $8 at wally world.
cleaned up the boot and installed.
hey, i have a "ding" on the other side of the pipe, does everyone's pipe have that little dent?
Looks good, what a difference, good job. I had a bugger getting mine clean, used mineral spirits, terpintine, didn't have anything else on hand at the time.
yup, i tried everything i had at first when i had it out the other day, nothing touched it. that's why i picked up the can. i didn't know for sure if it would work either, sure did great. Oh, i got a little on my leg, and it started burning pretty quickly!
Its just a sound muffler, you'll get a little extra whistle with it stripped off.
I knew it did that, but I thought somebody posted on here about the technical reason it was on there? Oh well, might have to get that off of mine, sure is ugly........
Yea we all have that ding . Must have been a AH_CHIT by a engineer. Glad to see you found something that helps get that stuff off. I used some Toolroom mould cleaner on it and a hand held wire brush and it rolled off.
I did mine in Feb. and after I pulled off the insul. I used a propane torch. Burned the
adhesive off and used course steel wool to remove the scorched stuff. Then after that
I just kept using finer steel wool to polish it up. Went fast, looks good and I had everything here. Just the way I did mine not the only way.
