Plug firing problem

Plug firing problem
I have an '88 f150 w/ 302. When I turn the key, starter spins but the motor doesn't start. The fuel pressure's right. I can smell gas on the plugs after turning it over. There's new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, distributor. Good fire out of the coil. The plug fires when tested against the block, but not as often as i think it should. Any help would be appreciated.

check your firing order. you might have accidently put the plugs in order of the newer 302/351 firing order.

this is the best one i could find. I used to have a great diagram on my old computer but lost it when it crashed.

rare chance it could be the ignition module on the distributor-they usually either fire or don't fire-but i know they can do some crazy stuff-you check codes yet? might be a good place to start now

Module's new with the distributor. Haven't checked the codes. How would I go about that?

since the distributor is new...did you install it right? if your timing is 180 out i dont believe it will run.

new mod not always a good mod, have gotten um out of the box, ready for the trash. stick with a motor craft, and you should be ok

pull # 1 plug, find top dead center, pull cap, and see where it's pointing, bet Jr's right, and your 180 out
