All the downpipes are just about the same to install, the hard part is getting the pipe to clear the pinchweld in the firewall and they are all 3" till they get below the seam. Some are 3" all the way, some are 3"-3.5" and some are 3"-3.5"-4" but they are all 3" at the top where they are close to the pinchwelded seam.
For a TYMAR pipe you'll have to call and talk to Dale:
In your opinions, should I go with a straight 3" or a 3-3.5" or 3-4"???
I think a straight 3 would be fine, I'm not planning on going crazy with upgrades. Maybe Stage I's, HPOP, TW Chip, and maybe a slightly better turbo. Mainly a daily driver/camping truck.
I just installed my exaust with Tymar's 3-3.5-4 DP. The hardest part was cutting out the old flat pipe. It was a pain getting the right angle on the sawzall to cut the entire width of the old pipe. Once it's out, cutting the firewall seams wasn't hard. I cut the seams, and then used a rock pry bar, about six feet long, to bend them. Using the pry bar only took about three minutes. Relatively easy.
Sounds good. How much are the 3 to 3.5 to 4 pipes from Dale?
Refer to the link in the 2nd post by Muley. Dale's phone number is on the webpage. I've known Dale and his wife for at least 6 or 7 years and their webpage hasn't changed.
Just give him a call and he'll be able to tell you about the best options, prices, coatings, etc.
Yes go for Tymar, I bought one a couple of years ago, ceramic coated IIRC it cost me about $ 185 + shipping. but I think it cost more now.
here is mine.
Did you see a noticable difference in the the overall way the truck ran when you put your dp's in? I was thinking about fabricating one and going with a 4" exhaust but didnt know if it really made a difference alone. I dont really care to make more hp , I just want it to run better and maybe pull my equipment around better. I will eventually when I have to upgrade parts a little at a time. I have two Jap cars that get all my love for now though.

The main thing with the downpipes from what I hear is lowering your EGT's and better response and exhaust flow.
I wouldn't get anything bigger than 3" at the top cause it won't fit easily at all in OBS trucks. You can open it up to 3.5 or 4" at the bottom but not on the upper half.
