I finally got my lawn cut. With all the rain it will need it again in a couple of days.My garden is doing great except for the dang squirrels eating up my plants. They cut my bell peppers to the ground & the peppers came back. I got lucky I guess. The only thing I've planted that didn't grow was my okra.I think the seeds were too old.I plan to plant some tomatoes that grow in summer heat instead. Hows everyones garden doing?
At least I have some solid "HABBIES". I thought the rest was a bunch of hype......
Since this is not the Carribean Islands, I doubt they will reach full heat. Climate has a lot to do with the plant and it's fruit.
Howie? I didn't know squirrels would go after bells. That's a big problem for me, since my place is surrounded by pecan trees and a regular ZOO of squirrels.... I think my bell peppers are doomed.
wouldn't that kinda be like sleepin with a book on your head instead of reading it? how are crops doin across the state? we had some really good hay this year from all the rain and sure glad to have a break from the rain couple weeks ago so we could cut and bale.
I'm uncertain just how many nutrients plants really gain from the soil. And yet - every molecule and substance in a plant has to come from somewhere.
I do recall something about a horticulturist who raised a tree in a big tub- after weighing the soil, measuring how much water and fertilizer it was provided, and so on.
At the far end - the soil was weighed and measured again, and it was found that the tree took virtually nil from the soil itself...
Here's my plot so far, by the way. Corn is arguing with weeds at the top edge because the tiller was acting up when it was planted. Peppers are at the left (I finally found not only some tobasco but also some Thai Hots!!!) In the row behind the collars left to right are the two Tobasco, and two Thia Hot plants. In front of the collars the little bitty fellas are the Carribean Reds. There are four collars each planted with Bell (back row) and Long Red Cayenne in front. The last four are hungarian hot wax. All of these have taken their sweet time getting established...
The bottom picture is zuchini, and pumpkin in the tubs (left to right). The last two tubs just got planted with beafsteak 'mater seeds. And the two groups of sprouts in the front are crook neck summer squash

My rice paddies are doin' fine!!!! Thanks fer askin'!!!
I got rid of four years worth of outdated seeds this year - I plan to save seeds from the best of the plants this time around.
On those squirrels, I'm considering putting a couple of mouse and rat traps out there just to drive off stray cats. There are a lot of feral ones around, and it's high time they feared MY place....
