i wanting to build a wrecker outta a 1ton truck and dont know where to start other than getting the truck. is there any one that sells a wrecker bed for a long bed truck preferably used as i dont have the money to buy a new one. also im wanting to put a wheel lift on it along with a boom. im thinking of going twin line boom but dont really know. any ideals would be helpful
well bubba it would all depend on how much money you wanted to spend,a good used vulcan with a boom and stinger wouldl,t be cheap, but if your not planning on using it every day I would try and pick up and old holmes 440,you could probably find an old ton ford with one of those on it for under a grand.all depends really on what you plan top do with it and how much your looking to spend
Hello Bubba, if I were you I would get at least a f-450. I know around here in oklahoma you can find the bigger trucks are a little cheaper than the f-350's.
I would look on craigslist every day and if you live around a big city you can get some deals. Good luck
yeah i was thinking about that but i can get a 1 ton for free from a buddy of mine that needs new glass and a motor (that i have). also i was thinking of adding more leafs to it to increase the weight. i know addng more leafs supposedly wears them out quicker (even though ive never experienced it) but id deal with that latter. what a good cheap but durably bed to look for. i know someone mentioned a 440 holmes, if i go with a 440 holmes it would have to be a power line 440 holmes with hydrolic winch rated at 5 ton. but im open to ideals also it wll be going on a longbed. i know its not practical because of the length but im up for the challenge.
i buy and sell cars alot and some are junk and some are. sometimes its a pain in the tush to drag a trailer around and or have to got clear across town to get mine along with making sure that i have everything with me needed. i usually keep most thing with me that are needed but im just wanting a truck that if need i can drive 50 or so mile and pick up a vehicle that im buying or that im scraping. a roll back would be nice but thats not going to happen for a while. its not going to be a every day thing just maybe 3 or 4 times a week thing.
how long a wheel base is the 1 ton you can get?if its long enough could you build a ramp truck out of it?something low, with a beavertail on it and drop ramps?and then mount a large wench behind the cab?

I saw two Holmes units on Denver craigslist this weekend. Don't know if you are close to there or not. They were pretty cheap, I suppose.
the 1 ton i can get is just a standard 8 foot bed one ton dual wheels. scrapyard king what bed are you using and what all have you had to do to get it to work?

The bed is just a holmes 440. And all you half to to is bolt it on, run a pto shaft, and wire up the lights and your good to go.
