Just want to make sure that I am not going to do something stupid or mess something up......
I am getting my Tuner next week, and one of the mods I want to do before it goes in is the intake mod, (6637) and the muffler delete for lower EGTs. Now I haven't crawled up under the truck to check it out but is it that easy?.... Just cut the muffler off at each end and replace with straight pipe?

Basically, but if you have a stock exhaust you'll have to have the muffler delete pipe bent because the inlet and outlet on the stock muffler are offset.
I mentioned doing this to a mechanic friend of mine and he frowned on it saying it could mean a big fine if detected, I live in Florida and we dont have inspections etc... and the DOT dont regularly stop p/u trucks for inspection So how hard wood it be to hollow out the muffler and how wood I go about it??????

Linky.
If you are careful about removing the muffler "skin" you can probably put it back on for a clean stock look.
I couldn't find anyone local that handles/could bend 3 1/2 pipe.. This is the route I went.. Very simple to do.. I bought the clamps but ended up tack welding it in place.

That is where I am lucky....the county I live in is a non emissions county. Dont have inspections.
ALL:
Is there a kit to do this? It would be nice to just crawl under the truck, sawzall the muffler off them clamping on a piece of pipe.
Before my Duals, I had a glasspack put in the stock muffler location from a shop behind me for 130.00 bucks total but he said just for cutting out the muffler and putting in a delete(frowned at here)) was 30.00 bucks. If you didn't want to do it yourself, might want to find a local muffler shop to do it for you in less than an hours time, good luck.
The pipe before the muffler has a bend in it and a clamp.Just cut it off in front of the muffler ,loosen the clamp ,turn the pipe 180 degrees and add your pipe a two band clamps.

I dont think the DOT is going to care if you remove the muffler. There are many big trucks running straight pipes. I always thought the turbo counted as a muffler.

BillyBob, I had a local shop do mine (better welds than I could do) and he just put in a straight pipe. It actually made the exhaust tip level with the ground by bringing it up a bit. The offset isn't severe enough to warrent an S bend (my opinion). Out the door $100, but it was worth it due to the outstanding weld job.
Wasn't there a cheap flow-through muffler option for like $40 or $50 from Napa or someplace?? Hardly seems worth the trouble to gut the stocker if you can get a good flow through for so cheap.
And Tom got it -- you have to cut the bent pipe and rotate it in the clamp to line it up if you go with a straight line muffler or straight pipe.
