Well...my oil pan rusted and dumped almost four gallons of oil on my driveway...I guess I should be happy that it didn't happen when I was on my way to or from Myrtle Beach two weeks ago. The truck is a 2001 with 63K on it. It spent the first six years of its life on Long Island, so I guess the salt did not help. The oil pan looked like something penetrated the paint in one spot and the corrosion started there. The rest of the pan still had the paint intact.
Anyway...does anyone think I should do anything else to the engine while it's out? I prefer to keep the internal components stock. Any input would be appreciated.
Dang, sorry to hear that man. But while its out it would be a good time to change your up-pipes over to bellowed. It would save you alot of work...
The up pipes have to be removed in order for the engine to come out, unless you lift the cab of course. So you still have to install the engine first, then put the up pipes on. But Clay is right, is a good time to do it since you have to remove them anyway.
If you are only worried about your pan, just pull the motor and install a new pan. If you are in a salty area, you might consider painting the new pan with POR-15 first before installing it. If you're not looking for more HP, don't worry about anything else.
