double din headunit

I installed a kenwwod ddx-512 last night in my 99 f250
It took a little trimming and isn't my cleanest install but its in and looks ok
This headunit is amazing... 6.1 " full touch screen ...dvd ..am/fm ...cd...mp3...wma... sat ready ...nav ready... ipod capable

I bought it from best buy for $299 because it was code locked
I unlocked the code and bought the ipod video adapter for $35
Total investment $335
Pics tonight

Anyone else install a double din in there sd???

How did you unlock the code if you don't mind me asking?

I've had extremely good luck with my ford unit so I haven't changed it out.. But I've really got my eye on this Double Din Unit:

Pioneer FH-P8000BT Car CD/ MP3 Player - eBay (item 300316970061 end time May-29-09 14:00:00 PDT)

U can get a master code online for every brand out there...
I went to my local dealer to get the seqence that is needed before the code
All the sequences I found online weren't for the touch screeen models but he called kenwood and they gave it to us

I can't wait to post pics I'm gonna go get a second dash peice and try to fiber glass a double din cage into it so its a bit more flush but its good for now...

I have, and it still needs a little attention. The dash kit that came with mine doesn't fit right, so one day I need to order a different kit and try it. But, here is the pic......

EDIT: Mine is a Pioneer AVIC F-700bt

I trimmed the top and bottom of the opening until it was flush, and I left the sides. I used a dash kit that came with my head unit that attaches to the sides of the unit and then is suppose to snap onto the sides of the dash. This dash kit was a little too wide however and it will not slide all the way in.

How much of your dash did you cut? All you need to trim off is the top and bottom of the radio opening and leave the sides as they are. If you order a dash kit, then you should be good to go. It will come with the side pieces and the trim ring for the front, at least it should.

what kind of dash kit u mean because i have the dash kit that is made for a single din but the cage that came with my kenwood is huge compared to the hole

i lined up the cage and i would have to remove the majority of the section between the radio and the heater controls

The ford Double Din is not the standard double din size..... Chevy started the whole double din idea and set the standard for the sizing. For what ever reason ford had to be just a little off....

It looks like you need a different trim ring. Mine is no where near that big. That might be for the 05-07 Super Duty dash, it is bigger than the 99-04.
