My gas gauge and my temp gauge on my truck(65 300 ci stock) do not work.
Unlike the wiring to the back of the truck there are a lot of wires to inspect, so is it better to get new gauges (where do I find them) and work from there?
The wires have power at the back of the instrument cluster and I cleaned the posts and fittings but no luck. Does that mean the sending units are bad? I just would like to know the best place to start.
Thanks in advance,
L
P.S.
How do I put the specs for my truck at the bottom of my posts? A pic of the truck would be nice also.
Thanks
L
Both sending units bad, guess anything is possible with these vintage trucks, particularly if setting for any length of time. There's also a 'Constant Voltage Regular' looks like a small metal box attached to the back of the instrument cluster. Recall member mentioning some of the after market units are made of plastic. Anyhow, the unit regulates the voltage to the instruments, take a volt meter and should vacilate from between 0-10 volts, if yu don't get a reading then it's bad.

When the ICVR = Instrument Cluster (Constant) Voltage Regulator begins to go bad, it can cause the needles on the Fuel & Temp gauges to "do the hula."
In other words, the needles can move up and down on their own.
The original ICVR's can be reset by tripping the regulator thru a hole in it by use of a straight pin. The later replacement ICVR's cannot be reset.
When the ICVR gives up the ghost, neither of these two gauges will work. The ICVR is mounted on the back side of the instrument cluster.
