Overheating
I have a 2003 ford 6.0L diesel, that has had an overheating problem for the last year. It is out of warrenty. I have replaced the following parts overflow tank and cap, egr cooler, oil cooler, radiator, water pump,thermostat. after removal the egr cooler, oil cooler and radiator were all bad the other parts were because we were there. Now when i go up grades without a load it doesen't overheat but when I put my toyhauler on the banks pda hits 240-250 for oil and I lose water out the cap. From what i can figure out is the next step is the head gaskets. If anybody has an insight to this Please let me know. thanks

You most likely need head gaskets. A common problem with the 6.0. If you want to fix it right and do it only once then do as follows..... List the banks stuff on ebay, get arp studs, have the heads checked for cracks and flatness, in stall studs and new gaskets then while ur in there delete the egr system. Lastly get a sct with custom tunes

I am not up on the banks power products is your PDA a tuner and monitor?The trouble with the inline power chips is they take the computers info and lie to the FICM so it advances timing and adds more fuel.The heat and cylinder pressures go way up witch is very hard on the engine. The worst thing is the transmission has no clue that there is more power and doesn't adjust pressures witch in turn eats up the clutches.By the sounds of it you have one or both HGs blown.

The banks tuner does not tune the truck. If the banks tuner actually tuned the truck you would be able to install a program and remove it. The sct is a flash device. It reprograms the computers timing, fuel tables, boost tables etc. The banks is a system that works by changing the readings from sensors to achieve more fuel and boost. With a system that does this you are more likely to have issues as it dosent compensate for problems. The only compensations it makes is defueling for egts. The banks has a great advertising record and a really crappy reputation on most boards for dodge, chevy and ford. The banks simply put dosent produce as much power, trans tuning and over all performance as a good tuner will. The accesories with banks are probably the best part of their packages. Their tuning is not that great. I don't like edge tuners but they make more power the same way banks do. (Inline tuners)

when your truck gets hot can you hear the engine fan kicking in?.you'll definately know when it does

I am assuming that this happens only while towing.
do you have an aftermarket water temp gauge?
how often you hear the fan engage while on the same grade?
when the fan engages, then what do you do or notice?
how long (duration) does it run?
any drop in coolant temps immediately after it engages?

yes it only happens on grades and the fan cycles on and off if i keep the rpm at 2000-2500 i can keep it from overheating and that is only since i replaced the parts i listed earlier. I believe it has to be the head gaskets at this point after everthing i have read.
