Easy question

I am wondering what the filter by the brake booster is on my 94 with a turbo IDI? It says oil filter on it but only has 3/8" lines running out the back. I tried to trace them back but I can't find where they go.

It's the size of the Powerstroke oil filter. Its mounted about level with the master cylinder.

I would guess the previous owner installed a bypass oil filter to extend the time between oil changes.

Is it motorcraft? if so is it the FL1995?

Its starting to sound like someone put a remote oil filter setup on it.

Can you read any numbers on the filter?

What ever it is, it is not stock.
Three guesses.

So either someone added a filter to the pressure line to the turbo or it is a bypass oil filter or it is a remote mount oil filter.

If it is on the turbo pressure line, one hose should go into the rear top center of the block for the oil supply and the other line would go to the top of the turbo.

The bypass filters usually tie in to the rear of the oil cooler near the stock filter location.
If it is a bypass filter, you should have that one and a filter down in the stock location.

And the last option, if you do not have an oil filter in the stock location then someone has installed a remote filter.

Another thought could be an auxillary fuel filter. That would take into account the size of the lines. I'm not positive, but I think the fuel lines run close to that location so that fits. At least they run along the frame on that side of the vehicle.

That is also a good possibility.

On the 86 and earlier trucks, that is close to the location of the water seperator.
But on the later years, the fuel lines stay down by the frame in that area.
