I've read all the archived posts about my 1991 e4od transmission and it appears the shuddering/vibrations I get while driving are caused by the torque converter clutch slipping.
I lightly pushed the brake pedal while it was doing it the last few times and I could feel the converter clutch releasing and the shaking stopped!
I changed the fluid and filter and added some tranny conditioner a month ago and it's improved a lot.
My question is, what should I do to be sure the converter has to be changed? And I'm selling my van so I can buy an old ford truck and camper so I don't want to do more than I have to to this van.
canging the fluid was a good idea. but did you change the fluid in the convertor also? you should have drained all the trans fluid including the convertor. 7 out of 10 times this will fix the problem. but just dropping the pan and changing the fluid doesnt cut it. the convertor must be drained.
